Meet our Faculty

Dr. Paul Newitt, Founder of BITE Club
Associate Fellow, American Academy of Implant Dentstry

Dr. Newitt completed his Bachelors Degree from Simon Fraser University in 1988 and received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of British Columbia in 1993. He spent two years interning at the British Columbia Cancer Agency before moving onto private practice in Vancouver. Dr. Newitt has continued his education in dental technologies and advanced aesthetics over the last 15 years. In 2016 Dr. Newitt received his Associate Fellow credentials from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

In 2004, Dr. Newitt established the Vancouver Laser Group, a continuing education group for dentists studying dental technologies. It was then that he created and managed three Laser Convergence Conferences in Vancouver. In that same year, Dr. Newitt received certificates in Laser proficiency from the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, The Academy of Laser Dentistry, and the Institute for Laser Dentistry.

In 2011, Dr. Newitt completed his level 7 training with the California Centre for Advanced Dental Studies and established Aesthetic Boot Camp, an education program for dentists training in facial aesthetics and smile design. – In the later part of 2011 Frontier Institute was established and provided, through the University of British Columbia Dental School, an advanced Smile Design and Facial Aesthetics training program, where Dr. Newitt both lectures and Instructs on Smile Design and Facial Aesthetics.

Since 2012, Dr. Newitt has been an active member of the AAID Vancouver MaxiCourse and became Associate Faculty of Canadian Dental Implant Training Centre in 2016. He lectures and is on faculty at the Vancouver MaxiCourse and founded the BITE Club implant prosthetics and implant restorative study club in 2016.

Dr. William Liang, Director
Diplomate, American Board of Oral Implantology
B.Sc, DMD, DABOI, DICOI, FAAID, FACD, FADI

Dr. William Liang attended the University of British Columbia and received his Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology in 1981 and his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree in 1983. At graduation, he was awarded the Canadian Oral and Maxillo-Facial Prize for highest standing in the area of Oral Surgery. He has been practicing dentistry in Surrey, BC for the past 35 years. Currently his practice is focused on adult restorative and implant dentistry. He is a past executive of the AAID Western District. Dr. Liang is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral Implantology/ Implant Dentistry, Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, Fellow and Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantology, Fellow of the Misch Implant Institute and Honored Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

Dr. Liang has been a teacher, mentor, and educator in implant dentistry to other dentists since 2005. He has lead numerous study clubs and founded the AAID Vancouver MaxiCourse in 2010. He continues to lead and lecture at the MaxiCourse as well as run smaller study clubs and courses through his implant dentistry training institute, Canadian Dental Implant Training Centre.

Dr. Jonathan Tsang, Facilitator

Dr. Tsang attended the University of British Columbia where he studied mathematics before heading to Philadelphia to study at Temple University School of Dentistry, one of the oldest dental schools in North America.  Upon graduating, Dr. Tsang returned to his home town of Abbotsford to open his dental practice.

Dr. Tsang is Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/ Implant Dentistry (ABOI/ID), a designation shared by fewer than 50 dentists in all of Canada.  Certification by the ABOI/ID attests to the fact that Dr. Tsang has demonstrated knowledge, ability, and proficiency in implant dentistry through a rigorous examination process. He is an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the Canadian Dental Association, and the British Columbia Dental Association.

He is an avid believer in continuing his education and over a hundred hours of extra courses each year on top of being an active member in several study clubs.  In 2011 he graduated from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry MaxiCourse, one of the most well respected and comprehensive, international training programs in implant dentistry. In addition to BITE Club White Rock, he joined the Vancouver MaxiCourse faculty in 2018.

Using his training to give back to the community has always been of importance, Dr. Tsang has provided dental community outreach in Canada, the United States, and even as far as Haiti.

Andrew Gillies, Education Coordinator

Andrew Gillies is Education Coordinator for the Canadian Dental Implant Training Centre, AAID Vancouver MaxiCourse, Vancouver Implant Continuum, and the BITE Clubs. He joins our faculty from an education, administration, and marketing/sales background. A school educator for seven years, he has experience in implementing education and curriculum advancements as well as introducing and expanding upon the integration of developing technologies into educational programs.

Outside teaching, Andrew has worked in a variety of roles in the administration of a laser skin care clinic for three years under Dr. Byron Ham, and he has run his own health and wellness business since 2011. He also supports and runs British Columbia Endodontic Solutions, a three-day hands-on rotary endodontics course led by a team of four endodontists, running in Surrey, BC, as well as a follow-up rotary endo study club in Richmond, B.C.

Andrew is also Executive Director of the Fraser Valley Dental Society, a non-profit society with a mission to connect local dentists in our community and provide valuable lifelong learning opportunities for our Fraser Valley dentists. For more information, please visit www.fvds.ca

Drawing upon his teaching and curriculum development background, Andrew works to make improvements to BITE Club curriculum, integrate different learning styles into program delivery, and effectively make use of new technology to improve student learning. He is here to ensure that your educational experience is as personalized and meaningful to each participant as possible.

Andrew works closely with our CDA staff, as well as Dr. Paul Newitt, BITE Club instructor and Dr. William Liang, program director, for support and growing knowledge in all things dental.
